The Elephant Orphanage
Pinnawela

The orphanage was established to feed, nurse and house young elephants found abandoned by their mothers. Young elephants sometimes fall into pits and ravines in their quest for water during the drought period. Other orphans have been displaced from their wild habitat by development projects or have been found abandoned before weaning, diseased or wounded








The Highway Museum
The Highway Museum complex is Sri Lanka's first highway museum and is located in Kiribathkumbura.
The museum has a collection of old construction equipment such as road rollers, steam road rollers, oil road rollers, tar boilers, coal scales, road signs and a model of the Bogoda Wooden Bridge. It is reported that some of the equipment on display is over 175 years old.
